When undertaking any social anxiety treatment you need to consider more than just what is going to happen in the therapy room. A succesful therapy will not only be able to help you get over the issues you are currently going through but also be able to direct you to going on and leading a much happier lifestyle in the future.

Social Anxiety Disorder (SAD) is one of the biggest mental health issues in the world today, with 15 million sufferers in the United States alone, this number is growing. It is also a problem that affect many millions of people throughout the rest of the world also. It is sad that of all the social anxiety treatments there are very very few that actually work. In fact the Social Anxiety Centre reports that

"No SAD medications have been shown to improve quality of life."

Would it help me to say that change is hard if not impossible? That the life of a person who has phobias, social anxiety, problems with weight or smoking or habitual bad habits is doomed to failure? Would it help me to say that you should stay stuck inside a horrible reality where you don’t even have a chance of reaching your life’s potential? Amazingly the answer to this question when applied to my advice being accepted by people in general is a definite YES!

But this is simply not advice I’m willing to give. I think it’s retarded.
